    In 1992, Aurora released its its first limited edition series.
    This year marked the beginning of the modern era of limited editions.
    Based on its successful Optima model, the Cristoforo Colombo series comprised a total numbered release of 1492 pens, in piston filler fountain pens, ballpoint pens, and 0.9mm mechanical pencils (the only 0.9mm pencil series ever released by Aurora in the modern era).
    The series celebrates the "discovery" of the Americas by Colombus, when his crew landed on San Cristobal, in 1492, some 500 years earlier.
    The pens are made of guilloche-engraved gold-plated metal, and the piston filling fountain pen sports its original pre-1993 release gold nib.
