    Description

July 4, 1963 Downbeat magazine.  The usual departments & news, plus the cover story (Basie, Teagarden and Maynard Ferguson in a discussion on jazz, etc.); an interview with tenor saxophonist Lucky Thompson upon his return from Europe; an interview with bassist Ahmed Abdul Malik, blindfold test featuring Paul Winter.
There is residue of an address label that was attached with a very tenacious glue. This magazine was rerouted and has a postage-due stamp on the back cover, as well as remnants of the original address label and the new address written there.  The spine of the cover is ripped on the fold, top and bottom, still attached by both staples.  It exudes a faint mildew odor--a result of being stored in an unheated garage on the wet side of Washington State...
